Language Arts
This year we will focus on:
Students' time during the reading workshop is spent reading, in the fullest sense of the word: reading, imagining, thinking, recalling, questioning, talking, writing, reviewing, comparing, researching, and reading some more. It includes mini lessons, independent work time, conferring and small group work, mid-workshop teaching and shares, during which partnerships or clubs work together. We will be using Words Their Way for Word Work. Students will continue to the work that took place in both first and second grade. (Lucy Calkins Units of Study, novels, other high-quality resources)
Writer's Workshop: whole group lesson; independent and/or small group practice; share; peer review; narrative, informational, opinion, and fairy tale writing. (Lucy Calkins Units of Study)
